  • The play's chief scene-stealer is Siobhän Edge, whose riotous turn as a smelly, canewielding octogenarian is sweetened by her delicious Northern brogue. Callen Harty also delivers admirably as the bumbling neighborhood simpleton whose neurotic notebook scrawlings prove to be revelatory in the show's final stretch. Politically minded viewers might detect a few metaphorical digs at Mr. Bush's fear-mongering doctrine as things unfold, and while the more dramatic plot elements in Wild's script feel a bit underfed, they do suggest that life goes on at Broom Street Theater, no less risky or imperfect than it was before.

  • CRIMINAL LAW -- Viewing the evidence in a light most favorable to the prosecution, a rational trier of fact could have found beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant acted purposely in killing the victim. Therefore the trial court did not err in denying defendant's motion for acquittal. The trial court did not abuse its discretion in excluding hearsay testimony that might tend to prove that another individual committed the murder for which the defendant is charged where the defendant failed to meet his burden of proving that the declarant was unavailable, and that he made a reasonable, good faith effort to secure the declarant's testimony. Because the defendant successfully negated any prejudice that may have arisen from an alleged act of prosecutorial misconduct, the alleged mis...
