ROCKLEIGH Evan Greene celebrated his 17th birthday Thursday by coming to life to help Demarest win the Bergen County golf team title.
Greene rallied on his back nine after a poor start at Rockleigh Golf Course, lifting Demarest to the Odell Nassar Group 1-2 and overall titles. The Norsemen's four-player score of 321 was four shots better than River Dell.

A former T-ball coach who made national headlines in 2005 for arranging to injure an autistic player is in jail again, this time accused of violating a protection from abuse order April 2 by refusing to leave his wife's Masontown home.
Mark R. Downs Jr., 32, of 321 Redstone Furnace Road, Hopwood, is being held at the Fayette County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bond while awaiting a hearing Wednesday before Common Pleas Judge Ralph Warman.

[Brandon Wood], 20, was the Angels' first-round draft pick in 2003 and hit .321 with a minor league-best 43 home runs and 115 RBIs this season for Rancho Cucamonga of the Class A California League. He also had an RBI in four games with Class AAA Salt Lake. He was the first Cal League player since Dave Duncan in 1966 to reach the 40-homer mark.

PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Pirates gave up on waiting for second baseman Aki Iwamura to break out of a season-long slump, benching their highest-paid player and replacing him with former first round draft pick Neil Walker.
Walker, the son of former major league pitcher Tom Walker, celebrated his promotion to everyday player by getting two hits as the Pirates beat the Cubs 2-1 on Monday. Walker is hitting .321 in seven games with the Pittsburgh, the identical average he had in 43 games with Triple-A Indianapolis.
