The guilty verdict for five former insurance executives on federal charges of conspiracy and fraud in a plot to manipulate the loss reserves of American International Group Inc kick-started an entirely new process that is essentially a whole new trial to determine the sentence for each defendant. As a result of the conviction on all counts in Federal District Court in Hartford, CT, four defendants each face a prison term of up to 230 years and the fifth faces a term of up to 160 years. Mark H. Allenbaugh, managing partner of Allenbaugh Samini, LLP, said many factors are at play in determining a potential prison sentence for each defendant. The probation officers will interview the defendants, witness and the community to get a full background, Allenbaugh said.

HACKENSACK - A seven-story apartment building damaged by a weekend fire is now safe to occupy, with all but one family able to return, officials said Monday.
That family of four may have to stay in a hotel or with family or friends for 10 days, because their fifth-floor apartment in the public housing complex at 230 Central Ave. was destroyed by the Saturday fire, said Mona Bookman, director of emergency services for the Bergen-Hudson Red Cross.
