KNOX - A Waldo County man totaled his car and suffered injuries early Monday morning after he swerved to avoid hitting a deer and went airborne off the road. Laurent G. Bailey, 54, of Knox, had been heading to work early in his 2006 Dodge Charger on Webb Road in Knox when he came across the deer in the roadway at about 4:30 a.m., according to Chief Deputy Bob Keating of the Waldo County Sheriff's Office.

HOPEWELL - A car veered off Interstate 295 in Hopewell yesterday, crashing onto a Hopewell city vehicle on the roadway 70 feet below. No one died in the accident, but three people were injured, including a Hopewell city employee. The crash occurred at around 9:45 a.m., when a 2006 Dodge Charger was traveling northbound on I-295. The driver lost control of his vehicle on the left side of the roadway, went down the embankment and landed onto Western Street below, according to Virginia State Police. The vehicle was then struck by a 1997 Ford Taurus which belonged to the City of Hopewell.
