SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. Twelve-year-old Hunt Smith has a keen sense of Little League history.
S. teams have won the last two Little League World Series titles. The last two Georgia teams to advance to South Williamsport have come away with the World Series trophy, including Columbus last year and East Marietta in 1983.

OMAHA, Neb. - Rosenblatt Stadium is a living, breathing testament to college baseball, a relic that has 50 years of memories coursing through its concourses. It pulses with every pitch, smells like 1952, 1965 and 1983, and oozes small-town charm.
The College World Series will leave the venerated grounds next season, heading down 10th Street and settling in at the new monolithic TD Ameritrade Ballpark, a modern marvel of beauty and comfort.

Public opinion broke squarely on the side of [Robert Cotter]. The following day a woman from Society Hill gave the boy a baseball signed by Yankees star pitcher Bob Shawkey and said she'd take him to an A's game when the Yanks came to town. "Well, if a ball comes my way at Shibe Park"- the home of the Athletics "I don't see why I shouldn't keep it," Cotter said. "The judge said so.
The saddest thing about being a Phillies fan is this: Since 2000 the Phillies have won at least 80 games every year. The Phillies' best stretch was from 1974 to 1983, when they won the division six times and won their only World Series. Other than a brief period after the Phils' first pennant in 1915, this might be the best stretch they've ever had. They haven't been to the playoffs (not even as a wild card)...

I want to take a few moments to extend my congratulations to Rich Dauer for his election to the Baltimore Orioles Baseball Hall of Fame.
Rich was an outstanding Colton High School athlete in three sports, a California junior college athlete of the year in baseball, a University of Southern California two-time All American and ultimately was a 10-year member of the Baltimore Orioles that included a World Series championship in 1983. He established an American League fielding record as a second baseman. He was an athlete who personified commitment.

Brandon Lima has never seen the Orioles win a title.
He wasn't alive when they won the World Series in 1983 or the Eastern Division title in 1997.

The Baltimore Orioles this week celebrated the 25th anniversary of the last time the franchise was loved and admired by fans.
The Orioles held a ceremony at Camden Yards to honor the 1983 team that won the World Series. The organization has milked its proud past many times, and such events often seemed like an attempt to divert attention from the dismal present.

Even for relatively meaningless games in the standings, I know many people make the short hop down the Thruway for Bisons' games in Rochester's Frontier Field, one of the happiest place you'll find to watch a game (as long as you're not looking at the Red Wings' hideous 49-93 record!).
If you're going for tonight's 7:05 game, be advised that the gates open at 5:30 and there's a 5:45 ceremony in the Walk of Fame area down the left field line to unveil a statue in honor of Rochester legend Joe Altobelli, the former Red Wings manager and broadcaster and the man who skippered the Baltimore Orioles to the World Series title in 1983.

Dobson continued to work throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s. Her film credits include "Come Back, Charleston Blue" (1972; starring Godfrey Cambridge); "Norman, Is That You?" (1976, starring Redd Foxx and Pearl Bailey); "Murder at the World Series" (1977, starring Lynda Day George); and "Chained Heat" (1983, starring Stella Stevens and Linda Blair). "Amazons," a made-for-TV movie directed by Paul Michael Glaser ("Starsky and Hutch") in 1984, was Dobson's last feature-length film. Her other television roles were on "Jason of Star Command" (during the 1980-81 season) and "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century" (1980, as the evil doctor).
