- Like Disney's 1982 original, this cyberspace fairy tale is a good-looking plate without much on it, combining dazzling CGI effects (now with 3-D and IMAX!) with a thin, slightly confusing story.

'Tron: Legacy' (Walt Disney Pictures)
Visually speaking, films don't come much better than "Tron: Legacy." Driven by vivid special effects and crisp sound editing, this sequel to the 1982 science-fiction classic is a real treat for the eyes and ears. It's a real display of what filmmakers can accomplish with computers. Looking past the beautiful exterior of "Tron: Legacy" is a problem, though. Looking at the most important element of the picture, the story, a lack of personality and pacing problems stick out. Like 2009's "Avatar," "Tron" lacks substance, falling short when looking past the digital elements. The film, marking the directorial debut of Joseph Kosinski, follows Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), the son of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), on a path to save his father. When a mysteriou...

[Martin], 43, took a step forward in his quest for world domination with the recent release of Holy Headshot: A Celebration of America's Undiscovered Talent, by [Patrick Borelli] and [Douglas Gorenstein]. Judging from this strange and outlandish collection of headshot photos and resumes from performers across the country and beyond, the book's authors just might be laughing at, not with, their subjects. Martin doesn't mind: "At work, at play, at the mall, I try to go for the rib cage and make somebody laugh," he says. "I get discouraged sometimes and want to give up, but I couldn't if I wanted to. I'll be 90 years old with an oxygen tank, cracking jokes on my death bed.
The center shot of Martin as himself was taken at his home by friend Chad Brosseau. Martin calls the night of the sho...

Though they cannot supplant nor replace other methodologies, films can possibly raise new questions, provide different perspectives, and reveal unique ways of knowing about seminal subject, at least by comparison to the standard fare of academic analysis. Each one, "ethics" and "leadership," draw upon substantially different intellectual literatures, scholarly methodologies, traditional assumptions, and disciplinary perspectives. Film, often far better than social science literature, may provide a more "holistic account" of not only individual lives, but entire situations where ethical leadership is practiced. Finally, ethical leadership includes the use of symbols. Symbols abound throughout, thus giving the story meaning, depth, and power beyond simply "a typical feel-good" movie. List...

(1981/1982): After the wildly successful Dawn of the Dead lifted him out of a decade of obscurity, George Romero could have done anything. So he did. Surely one of the more bizarre premises in history, Knightriders tells of a ragtag group (led by a young Ed Harris) who travel the country, putting on joust competitions on motorbikes, all while updating the Arthurian legend for the age of diesel. At an epic two arid a half hours, it can't help but feel excessively personal, but the central quandary-how a cadre of artists can hold onto their inscrutable code without selling out or splitting up-so clearly comes from experience that it's never less than amiable. The biker battle theme continues with 1982's 1990: The Bronx Warriors, one of the many Italian Mad Max ripoffs (see also: the MST3K...
