Gene Palmer's love for cars shined through at the Uptown Whittier Car Show that attracted thousands of people when he won an award for the "Best Motor" with his super-charged 1926 Ford Model T Coupe on Aug. 20. Palmer, 69, has been the proud owner of the Ford for the past 52 years and has spent a significant amount of time cruising around Whittier since he graduated from Whittier High School where he served as president of The Solitaires car club.

When Ernest Pusey went to work for General Motors in 1926, the best-selling car in the country was Ford's Model T. When Mr. Pusey retired in May 1958, General Motors held the No. 1 position and the Chevrolet Impala was in its first model year.
