Tracey Kelusky will be part of opening night for the Calgary Roughnecks for the ninth straight year tonight when that team hosts the Buffalo Bandits in the Scotiabank Saddledome (9:30 p.m., webcast on NLL.com, Radio 1520 AM). Here's the catch: He won't be playing for Calgary.
The Bisons are back in town at Coca-Cola Field and open an eight- game homestand tonight against the Norfolk Tides. The game is on Time Warner 13 as well as WGR and WWKB Radio (550 and 1520 AM). Knuckleballer R.A. Dickey is on the mound for Buffalo and he'll be facing Norfolk right-hander Chris Tillman, the hot Baltimore prospect who fired a no-hitter April 28 at Gwinnett and struck out 10 Toledo batters in his last start May 9. That was the IL's first nine-inning no-no since 2006 and the first for the Tides since 1992.
The goaltending for the Buffalo Bandits has gone on quite a ride so far in 2010. Injuries and inconsistent play in the nets have been a fact of life for the Bandits throughout the season. They certainly could use some certainty in that position as they head down the stretch for the final three games of the season. Buffalo hosts the Toronto Rock tonight in HSBC Arena (7:30 p.m., Radio 1520 AM, telecast on nll.com) in the first of those games.
It's easy to figure out why Darris Kilgour could tie the National Lacrosse League's all-time record for career coaching victories tonight when his Buffalo Bandits face the Orlando Titans in HSBC Arena (7:30 p.m., Radio 1520 AM). It's not because he likes to win, although Kilgour certainly does. It's a case that he hates to lose. Make that, hates to lose -- and is driven to do it as infrequently as possible.
The Buffalo Bandits lost a season-ticket holder when Adam Jones graduated from Canisius College and moved to Denver. Now he'll have an even better view of the action as he returns to play in a game against them. Jones has stepped right into the lineup of the Colorado Mammoth, who play the Bandits tonight in First Niagara Center (7:30 p.m., nll.com, Radio 1520 AM).
The Buffalo Bisons are in their seventh home series and 13th overall of the season. They haven't won one, but they finally get the chance tonight. The Herd cruised to a rain-shortened 6-2 win over the Charlotte Knights on Monday in Coca-Cola Field and have won two of the first three games over the Chicago White Sox affiliate. They go for a series win tonight at 7 (Radio 1520 AM).
Chris Corbeil is the Buffalo Bandits' answer to such two-sport standouts as Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders. Corbeil has earned regular duty on the defensive unit of the Bandits, which will play in Minnesota against the Swarm today (2 p.m., Versus, Radio 1520 AM). In his "spare" time, he also plays college hockey in Canada.
It's been quite a ride for Mike Thompson in his career with the Buffalo Bandits, and he's definitely enjoying a high at the moment. Thompson's goaltending is a big reason why the Buffalo Bandits are in second place in the East Division. They'll try to stay in that spot tonight when they host the Boston Blazers in HSBC Arena (7:30 p.m., TWC 13, Radio 1520 AM).
It almost wouldn't be a home opener for the Buffalo Bandits unless John Tavares was involved. Tavares and the Bandits will start their 20th home season tonight when they host the Toronto Rock in HSBC Arena (7:30, TWC 13, Radio 1520 AM).
MOOSIC, Pa. -- The Buffalo Bisons' bid to secure the wild-card spot in the International League playoffs suffered a setback Sunday when they were held to two hits in 5-1 loss to Scranton-Wilkes/ Barre. The loss, combined with a Columbus win over Indianapolis, drops the Herd 21/2 games behind the Clippers for the wild-card spot. The Herd has nine games remaining, including the next four at home starting tonight at Coca-Cola Field against Syracuse (7 p.m., Radio 1520 AM).
