Q: I am a contractor in Maryland. I work on quite a few ice- damming situations. Right now I am working on a four-valley roof, no overhang basically other than rakes. All four corners come to a point at the bottom of the valleys. The roof is cathedral with a 12/ 12 pitch. The valley interior is an exposed beam rafter. I want to know if 1-inch furring is used on top of plywood, allowing air in from sides as well as bottom point, then new sheeting installed over. What are condensation issues? Can under-plywood be covered with Titanium similar to CVRS (Cornell Ventilated Roof Sheathing)? I've attached a picture of the house. -- via e-mail
A: You have not said what type of insulation, if any, is on top of the roof deck or what the roof deck is made of, including the type of ceiling finish.

From those experiences and from client feedback, he found the following to be the 12 most important key steps toward getting the win you deserve: 1. Manage first impressions. 2. Decide go/no-go -- fast. 3. Pick the right team. 4. Start up efficiently. 5. Discover the ah-ha! 6. Strategize twice, not once. 7. Stick to your theme. 8. Produce a powerful pitch, not a masterpiece. 9. Rehearse. Then rehearse some more. 10. Nail the logistics. 11. Wow them. 12. Close all the loops. Get client feedback, good and ...

When Esmerling Vasquez's 0-1 offering landed squarely in the middle of Danny Espinosa's back Sunday, the Washington Nationals second baseman was incensed.
The National League's leader in hit-by-pitches didn't appreciate the message behind that plunking, one of four times the Nationals were hit by Diamondbacks pitches on Sunday. Washington and Arizona combined for 10 HBPs in the four-game series.

PHILADELPHIA | Ryan Howard hit an RBI double in the 10th inning soon after Cliff Lee fell one strike short of his seventh shutout, and Philadelphia swept the day-night doubleheader Thursday.
The Phillies reduced their magic number for clinching a fifth straight NL East title to two. Jose Lopez spoiled Lee's shutout bid when he hit a tying home run on an 0-2 pitch in the ninth. Lee struck out 12 and allowed five hits in nine innings, failing to earn his 17th win.
