SHAWBORO - , 72, of the 110 block of N. Marshall Road, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2011 at his residence. A native of Greenville, S.C., he was the son of John Benjamin Barnett of Langley, S.C. and the late Lula Gentry Barnett and the widower of Edeltraud Zanggl Barnett. He was a program system analyst for the civil service and a member of the Open Door Chapel.
Besides his father he is survived by a daughter, Sharon A. Barnett and a grandson, Daelin W. Barnett of San Antonio, Texas; a sister, Wally Russ of Greenwood, S.C.; two brothers, Carlos Barnett of Langley, and Tommy Barnett of LuRay, Va.

You might remember back in March when city officials were hopeful they would resolve the radar problem cramping development at the Oceanfront.
The Federal Aviation Administration had prohibited the city from constructing buildings taller than 110 feet at the Oceanfront because they would block long-range radar. The city's long-term development plan calls for several towers - including a convention center hotel - up to 180 feet.

A sobriety checkpoint southwest of Columbia early yesterday resulted in 20 arrests or summonses.
About 110 vehicles were stopped at the checkpoint on the 3600 block of Vawter School Road between midnight and 2:30 a.m., the Boone County Sheriff's Department said.
