Championship Saturday has arrived for the six high school football teams -- all undefeated -- that are still alive in Maine this season, with a tripleheader of state finals scheduled to begin shortly after 11 a.m. at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland.
The Eastern Maine representatives in those contests -- Class A Lawrence of Fairfield, Class B Leavitt of Turner Center and Class C Bucksport -- can only hope that things go better than they did for last year's regional champions, who all lost by a combined 100-14.

The Jeffrey B. Scott Memorial Hockey Tournament began as a way for family and friends to keep alive the memory of a boy who loved sports, especially hockey, but who left them way too soon under tragic/shocking circumstances. But the event has done more than that since its inception nearly 11 years ago.
It's provided those who knew him an opportunity to grieve collectively, to celebrate his life and the game of hockey, which he played so joyfully while growing up along the Cheektowaga-Depew town line. He passed away nearly 30 years ago from a heart defect after a neighborhood game of street hockey.

TRIPOLI, Libya - Taunting NATO, Moammar Gadhafi said Friday that he is alive despite a series of airstrikes and "in a place where you can't get to and kill me." The defiant audio recording was broadcast after the Libyan government accused NATO of killing 11 Muslim clerics with an airstrike on a disputed eastern oil town.
Gadhafi had appeared on state TV but not been heard speaking since a NATO attack on his Tripoli compound two weeks ago, which officials said killed one of his sons and three grandchildren. In a brief recording played Friday on Libyan TV, Gadhafi said he wanted to assure Libyans concerned about a strike this week on his compound in Tripoli.
