Local Damon Simonton of Chef Damon's restaurant was just nominated for one of the most prestigious awards in the culinary world. His is a semi-finalist in the 2009 James Beard Foundation Award for Best Southwest Chef. Over 15,000 chefs, restaurants and wine specialists were nominated, but only 380 made the semi-finals. On March 23 the list will be narrowed down to 95 finalists with the final award winners being announced on May 4 in New York City.
